The Freshwater Biological Association Log BookThis book holds the handwritten records of field excursions, data gathering trips and observations made by scientific researchers and technical support staff at the Freshwater Biological Association at the Ferry House on the west side of Windermere from the early 1950s up to the late 70s. Entries include notes on the surrounding vegetation and on the plants and animals in the water. In some cases who to contact to obtain access permission is included together with comments on the terrain and the weather conditions. It is a fascinating record of the work and activities of scientists of the past. The book has been carefully looked after by the FBA over the years, recognising the importance of preserving this scientific treasure. It has been handled thousands of times and is consequently very fragile so the FBA has scanned the whole document to produce a digital version so that its contents can be preserved and made readily available to those with an interest in tarns and historical aspects of freshwater science. If you have any scientific information, photographs or old documents which have a bearing on the tarns of Cumbria please contact us at the FBA at info@fba.org.uk.
